酒田の町家
山形県酒田市の中心市街地に建つ住宅である。
日本海に面した酒田は、冬は垂れ込めた雲のもと、海からの強い風が吹く厳しい気候となる。建物の断熱性を高め、床下に蓄熱暖房機を配置して家全体の暖かさを確保するとともに、天井の高い南側のリビングルームは開口部の高さを抑えつつ、家の中央に設けた吹抜けから室内の奥深くまで自然光を導く。色・素材ともに抑制されたミニマムな雰囲気でありながら、厳しい冬も柔らかな明るさに包まれた室内を目指してデザインした。
南北に長い敷地の北側に接する道路は、かつて軒を連ねていた町家の面影は現在ほぼ失われ、街並みが乱れ始めている。アプローチ通路を囲い込むフレームを車庫の道路側外壁と揃え、表側に極力寄せることで、現代的デザインの中にあっても、この住まいが「新しい町家」として、失われつつある街並みのかたちを保つことを意識した。
This house stands in the central downtown district of Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture. With clouds hanging low over the city in the winter, Sakata City, which faces the Japan Sea, experiences severe winds from the sea. Warmth is therefore ensured throughout the house by heightening insulation in the building and equipping heat-accumulating heaters under the floors. At the same time, in the south-facing living room with its tall ceilings, the height of the openings are kept low and the atrium in the center of the house lets natural light deep into the far corners of the room. While both colors and materials are kept at a minimum, this design aims to create a gentle, brightly-lit space even in the cold winters.
The site stretches long in the north-south direction. The street to the north of this site was once lined with row houses, however, this streetscape has almost completely dissolved and the scenery has begun to fall out of order. We thus formed a frame around the approach that acts as the wall of the garage — an expression of a “new row house” that is both modern but also attempts to preserve this deteriorating landscape.
